JARASANDHA’S BIRTH

Hoping to beget a child, King Brihadratha took his two wives to practice austerities in a forest.

One day the King met a rishi who gave him a mystical mango and told him to share it between his Queens.

After eating their half of the mango, the Queens quickly became pregnant, and the King’s heart filled with joyful anticipation as their time to give birth drew near.

However, his joy soon turned to agony because both of his Queens gave birth to only half a baby. The King threw the lifeless half babies into a forest where the wicked witch Jara lived.

Jara joined the two halves together and took the nice-looking baby to the delighted King.
