JAGADANANDA PANDIT OFFERS LORD CHAITANYA NEW BEDDING
Lord Chaitanya slept on a bed of dry plantain bark, and the hard pieces of bark hurt the Lord as they pressed into His bones when he lay down to rest.
The devotees cried to see the Lord’s discomfort and Jagadananda Pandit set out to put things right. He made a beautiful quilt and pillowcase. He filled the covers with fine cotton paddingand offered the soft new bedding to the Lord to sleep on.
Lord Chaitanya was mortified at the idea of using such luxurious bedding. He adamantly refused to accept it.
When Lord Chaitanya then accepted the less comfortable quilt that Svarupa Damodara had made, it was more than Jagadananda Pandit could bear. He was so upset that he left Jagannatha Puri for a while and went to stay in Vrindavana.
