JAGADANANDA PANDIT OFFERS A POT OF SANDALWOOD OIL TO LORD CHAITANYA

While living in Jagannatha Puri, Jagadananda Pandit tried to serve Lord Chaitanya by offering Him opulent gifts. Lord Chaitanya felt that Jagadananda Pandit was trying to make Him enjoy sense gratification, and the Lord often refused Jagadananda Pandit’s offerings.

Once, when Jagadananda Pandit was staying in Bengal, he made a large pot of sandalwood oil for Lord Chaitanya. He carried the oil carefully all the way to Jagannatha Puri. During the long walk, Jagadananda Pandit anticipated the Lord’s joy when He received the oil.

However, when he presented the oil to the Lord, the Lord was displeased, and He refused the oil, saying that it was far too opulent for a sannyasi to use. Jagadananda Pandit was upset and angry.

Jagadananda hurried home, went inside, and locked his front door. He stayed alone in his room and refused to eat anything for three days, and then Lord Chaitanya rescued him.
